CLAREMONT, Calif. - The No. 7 California women's water polo team completed its weekend sweep of its opposition with three victories at the Convergence Tournament on Sunday. The Bears defeated George Washington, 18-8, Claremont-Mudd-Scipps, 22-5 as well as Occidental, 14-5. Cal is now 24-4 overall.
"I'm happy with the intensity today, especially after the day we had yesterday," Cal head coach Richard Corso said. "It was important to play hard today, and it's been another great weekend of competition and training. The most important thing is that we're getting better each better and that's the kind of position in which we want to be."
No. 7 Cal vs. George Washington
The first quarter of play against Colonials was close, with Cal leading 5-3 at the close of eight minutes. The Bears took off with the game thanks to a six goal outing in the second stanza, compared to GW's one goal, to take a 11-4 advantage into halftime. Cal capped off the second half with seven goals and limited George Washington to four. Five different Bears contributed multi-goal performances, Barron and Lorenz with three each. Goalkeepers Lauren Burke and Stephanie Peckham split time in goal, each notching five goals.

The Golden Bear offense came out attacking against CMS, scoring 13 goals in the first half of play. The Athenas got just one goal on the board in each of the first, second and third quarters. The Bears scored five goals in the third period and four in the fourth to win the nonconference game, 22-5. Again, it was Barron and Lorenz who lead the Bears, this time with four scores apiece.

The Bears closed out their weekend with a definitive 14-5 win over Occidental. Barron and Lorenz were the leading scores to the Bears for the third game on Sunday, each with three goals.
