No. 6 Cal Wins Two at Tournament
March 21, 2009
SAN DIEGO - The No. 6 California women's water polo team defeated No. 12 Hartwick, 13-5, and Brown, 11-7, on Saturday afternoon at the Aztec Invitational. With the nonconference win, the Golden Bears are now 26-4 overall.
"I'm pleased with the effort and intensity the players have shown thus far on this important spring break trip," California head coach Richard Corso said. "We need to continue the momentum tomorrow and of course, when we get to Hawaii next weekend."
Hartwick game
The Bears struck an eight-goal lead in the first period to overwhelm Hartwick, which only notched one goal in the first eight minutes of play. The game evened in the second stanza with each team scoring once. Hartwick tacked on three goals in the final quarter, but it was not enough to overpower the Bears. Julie Oreglia led the Bears with four while goalkeeper Stephanie Peckham made an amazing 16 saves between the posts.
