COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The No. 19-ranked California men's doubles team of senior Geoff Chizever and sophomore Pedro Zerbini earned their 25th win together to advance to the round of 16 at the 2009 NCAA Division I Men's Doubles Championship on Thursday (May 21) at the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center. The Golden Bear tandem prevailed with a 6-4, 6-0 win over the No. 33-ranked duo of Tobias Fanselow and Aleksandr Seleznev of Old Dominion by producing a dominating performance in the second set.

The two teams opened the match on serve for the first two games before the Bears were able to break the Seleznev serve to go up 2-1. Cal continued to run to get a 3-1 lead until Fanselow and Seleznev earned a break on Zerbini's serve to knot the first set at four-all. Chizever's shot in the ninth game gave the Bears the 5-4 lead. Serving for the first set, Chizever came through to help seal the win, 6-4.

Chizever and Zerbini carried the momentum from the first-set win to break the Seleznev serve in the first game of the second set. There was no looking back after that. The Bears broke Seleznev once more to go up 5-0 before Zerbini held serve to finish off the 6-0 win.

The Bears will take on No. 5 Jamie Hunt and Nate Schnugg of Georgia in the round of 16 on Friday (May 22) at 2 p.m. PT. For complete draw, results and additional information, please visit www.aggieathletics.com/ncaa2009/tennis.
