SAN FRANCISCO - California men's tennis sophomore Riki McLachlan and freshman Ben McLachlan advanced to the doubles championship match at the second-annual Battle in the Bay Classic at the California Tennis Club on Saturday, Oct. 2. The duo defeated Stanford's top-seeded duo of Matt Kandath and Walker Kehrer in the semis to move into the final.
The McLachlans will face USC's second-seeded team of Raymond Sarmiento and JT Sundling in the championship match on Sunday, Oct. 3. Play concludes with the singles consolation final at 11 a.m. PT. The main-draw singles final follows the consolation final, followed by the doubles title match.
As the fourth seed in the main singles draw, Riki McLachlan defeated USC's Michael Grant, 6-1, 6-3, in the singles quarterfinal. Ben McLachlan fought it out with Sundling in another quarterfinal match, but fell, 6-4, 7-5. Riki McLachlan fell to second-seeded Sarmiento in the singles semifinal, 6-2, 7-5.
