IRVINE, CALIF. - The California women's water polo team, led by eight different scorers and the defense of sophomore Stephanie Peckham, won their opening match at the UC Irvine Invitational Saturday against UC Davis, 13-5, at the Anteater Aquatics Complex. Senior Meghan Corso and freshman Jennifer Docto scored three goals apiece, while Peckham added twelve saves, as the Golden Bears improved to 11-2 on the season.
Cal shut out the Aggies in the first period to take a 2-0 lead. Davis was able to match Cal's three goals in the second quarter, but still trailed by two at halftime. The Bears outscored the Aggies 8-2 in the second half, including five goals in the final period.
Cal next faces No. 6 Hawai'i at 4:30 p.m. Saturday for the third time this season.
