The No. 4-ranked Cal women's water polo team, again led by the scoring of sophomore standout Emily Csikos, improved to 9-0 with an 8-7 victory over No. 3-ranked Hawaii during day two of the 2010 Stanford Invitational. The Golden Bears will now face No. 1-ranked and host Stanford for the tournament championship at 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 7. Csikos led Cal past the Rainbow Wahines with four goals and has now tallied 12 goals in three tournament matches (23 goals on the year).
The Bears also got 10 saves from sophomore goalie Stephanie Peckham, two goals from senior Stephanie Schnugg and a goal each from senior Meghan Corso and freshman Dana Ochsner as Cal upended Hawaii for the second time this season (won 7-4 Feb. 3 at Cal). In Sunday's match, the Bears had trailed the Rainbow Wahines, 4-3, at halftime. However, Cal was able to mount a comeback by outscoring Hawaii, 5-3, in the second half, including breaking up a 6-6 third period tie by outscoring the Rainbow Wahines, 2-1, in the fourth period.
