Led by senior Stephanie Schnugg's three goals, the No. 3-ranked California women's water polo team won the first of two contests Saturday (March 13), defeating No. 14 San Diego State, 10-4, in an MPSF match-up at the Aztec Aquaplex. The Golden Bears (15-5, 3-2) will next play No. 20 Princeton at 4:45 p.m. Saturday as part of the Aztec Invitational.
Besides Schnugg's three goals, fellow senior Camille Hewko added two goals. Jumping out to a 4-0 lead after the first period, Cal showed balanced scoring the rest of the match. The Bears had seven different players recorded goals, including single goals by seniors Remy Champion, Meghan Corso, Julie Oreglia and Erin Scully, and sophomore standout Emily Csikos.
Csikos leads the Bears, and the MPSF, with 50 goals in 20 matches. Hewko is second on the squad with 26 goals.
