The No. 3-ranked California men's water polo team outscored UC Davis, 3-0, in the fourth period to defeat the host Aggies, 13-8, Saturday (Sept. 25) afternoon at the Aggie Shootout, held at the Schaal Aquatics Center in Davis. The Golden Bears (7-1), paced by senior Zach White's match-high five goals, broke away from a 10-8 margin on final period goals by White, junior Luka Saponjic and freshman Giacomo Cupido.
Junior Ivan Rackov added a pair of first period goals, Saponjic had two goals, while senior Brian Dudley, junior Cory Nasoff and freshman Perry Short also notched goals for the Bears. Sophomore goalie Justin Parsons had five saves in the second half.
It was the second time Cal has defeated UC Davis this season, also winning 14-4 Sept. 4 at Spieker Aquatics Complex.
Earlier Saturday, the Bears had defeated Redlands, 15-5, behind three goals apiece by junior Travis Bickham and sophomore Marin Balarin.
Cal will next travel to the 2010 SoCal Invitational, Oct. 2-3 at UCLA's Spieker Aquatics Center. The Bears open the SoCal Invite versus Santa Clara at 11:10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 2. If Cal wins that match, it will play the winner of UC Irvine-St. Francis at 5:50 p.m. at Spieker Aquatics Center.
