BERKELEY - California women's tennis junior Jana Juricova and senior Mari Andersson won the 2010 Cal Nike Invitational doubles championship at the Hellman Tennis Complex on Sunday, Sept. 26. The top-ranked and top-seeded Golden Bear tandem secured the crown by defeating Arizona State's fourth-seeded duo of Micaela Hein and Kelcy McKenna, 8-5, in the title match.
In singles play, sophomore Annie Goransson advanced to the Gold singles final by taking out Claire Soper of Saint Mary's College, 6-1, 6-1, in the semifinal. Goransson drew third-seeded and No. 54-ranked McKenna in the final where she claimed the first set, 6-1, but McKenna responded to win, 6-4, 6-1, in the second and third sets to walk away with the Nike Invitational singles championship.
As the second seed in the Blue singles draw, sophomore Tayler Davis defeated Julia Hansen of Pacific, 6-2, 6-0, in the semifinal to set up a one-versus-two title match. In the final, Davis made short work of top-seeded Deborah Armstrong of Long Beach State by winning, 6-1, 6-1.
