California sent a contingent of 10 runners to the Bronco Invitational Saturday, with the Golden Bear men placing 16th and the Cal women 10th. The race was contested at Baylands Regional Park in Sunnyvale.
While the leading members of the Bears were at the Wisconsin adidas Invitational Friday, those who did not travel had the opportunity to compete Saturday morning. Of the 10 runners, seven are in their first year on the squad.
Junior Renaud Poizat paced the Cal men with a 57th-place, covering 8,000 meters in 25:09.9. Newcomers comprised the rest of the Bear lineup - freshmen Chris Kigar (71st), Bryan Jordan (94th) and Anthony Castro (104th); and senior transfer Dylan Isaacson (159th).
For the women, freshman Laura O'Neill was the first Cal runner across the line as she posted a 5,000-meter time of 17:42.2. The others out on the course were freshman Kathleen Uyttewaal (38th), senior Taylor Bryson (53rd); sophomore Juliana Green (75th) and freshman Sydney Gray (115th).
The Bears return to action at the Pac-12 Championships on Oct. 29 in Tempe, Ariz.
