• Tonight served as the annual Pete Newell Classic, honoring the former Cal coach who guided the Bears to the 1959 NCAA title.
• Justin Cobbs scored a career-high 25 points, and surpassed the 22 he had earlier this year against Denver. He shot 10-of-12 from the floor, 3-of-3 from three-point range, and 2-of-2 at the line.
• Cal set a season high with 11 three-pointers (20 attempts), and surpassed the nine the Bears had against Denver. The last time Cal had more than 11 was on March 5, 2009, when they sank a school-record 16 at Arizona. Allen Crabbe tied his season best with five three-pointers, one shy of his career high.
• Other than Missouri, every Cal opponent this year has been held to under 45 percent shooting from the floor. UC Santa Barbara shot 40.4 percent.
• Cal improved 29-3 in non-conference home games under head coach Mike Montgomery.
• Cal has won eight games by at least 20 points this season.
• Cal is 9-0 when scoring 70, or more, points as well as allowing less than 60 points this year.
• Earl Robinson, a member of Newell's teams from 1955-58, received the Pete Newell Career Achievement Award, an honor presented annually to a Cal men's basketball alumnus who has distinguished himself in his career accomplishments.
• Cal played without two members of its starting lineup against the Gauchos. Center Richard Solomon was out with a stress fracture in his foot, while guard Jorge Gutierrez did not suit up due to an illness.
• The Bears drained their first six three-point attempts before missing for the first time with 3:53 left in the first half. The six field goals equaled or exceeded the team's full-game total for seven of their first 11 games of the year.
