Leverenz Captures 400 IM at U.S. Nationals

ATLANTA - California junior Caitlin Leverenz won her second title in as many nights when she claimed the 400-meter individual medley at the 2011 AT&T Winter National Championships Friday at the Georgia Tech Aquatic Center. The Golden Bear community collected a second victory at Georgia Tech when alumna Dana Vollmer won the 100-meter butterfly.

Leverenz posted a time of 4:37.68 in the 400 IM one night after winning the 200 IM at Winter Nationals. Also on Friday in Atlanta, Cal signee Elizabeth Pelton took third in the 100-meter backstroke with a time of 1:00.55.

The Winter Nationals conclude on Saturday in Atlanta. Leverenz and the rest of the current Bears compete in the Georgia Fall Invitational on Saturday and Sunday in Athens, Ga.
