Liv Jensen won the 50-yard freestyle and swam on the winning 200-yard freestyle relay to lead No. 2 California on the first night of finals at the Georgia Fall Invitational Friday at Gabrielsen Natatorium. The Golden Bears stand in second place with 197.5 points behind host and top-ranked Georgia (335 points). Virginia (187 points) is third.
Jensen, a senior who won the 50 free at the 2010 NCAA Championships, posted an automatic NCAA qualifying time of 21.84 to win the sprint in Athens. She combined with freshman Kaylin Bing, sophomore Cindy Tran and senior Katherine Raatz to capture the 200-free relay with an NCAA B qualifying time of 1:29.13. Jensen also swam with Tran, freshman Yvette Kong and senior Colleen Fotsch on Cal's third-place 400-medley relay, which posted an NCAA B qualifying time of 3:35.88.
Senior Shelley Harper posted Cal's best finish in the 500 free, taking third place with an NCAA B time 4:38.79. In the only other final of the night - the 200-individual medley - sophomore Melissa Bates was the top Bear, clocking an NCAA B time of 1:59.82 to place sixth.
The Bears compete in the second day of the Georgia Fall Invitational on Saturday.
