PULLMAN, Wash. - Making his first collegiate start for the injured Allen Crabbe (concussion), Jeff Powers turned in an admirable performance for the Bears, posting 14 points. He went 3-for-6 from three-point distance, making his first two shots.

All 19 of Jorge Gutierrez's points came in the second half. He shot 0-for-8 in the first half, but finished 5-16, including a perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line.

Both Cal and Washington State were even in second-chance points (8) and fast break points (4).

Harper Kamp paced the Bears on the boards with nine, coming up one rebound shy of a double-double (17 points).

While he was quiet offensively, Markhuri Sanders-Frison registered a career-high four steals.

The Bears trailed by as many as 11 in the second half, but an 18-7 Cal run propelled them right back into the game. Cal held a three-point lead with five minutes remaining in the contest after a basket by Powers, but two baskets and a steal by DeAngelo Casto gave the Cougars the lead for good.
