The California Golden Bear women's gymnastics team lost a close dual meet to the visiting Sacramento State Hornets, 192.900-192.700, the second time this season that the Bears had been edged out by .200 or less.

After trailing through the first three rotations, Cal nearly completed a comeback victory in the final rotation, the floor. The Bears had five gymnasts set personal records for their performances. The Bears' 48.725 team score on the floor was their highest of the season in any event. Sophomore Mariesah Pierce, in the final performance of the meet, scored a 9.900 on the floor. It was the first time a Cal gymnast scored a 9.900 on a routine since March 16, 2008 when both Bridgette Glass and Sophia Hocini earned the marks (Glass on bars and Hocini on floor).

In addition to Pierce, sophomore Chelsea Spomer PR'ed with a 9.700. Freshman Alicia Asturias (9.725), freshman Lina Nilsson (9.750), and freshman Dallas Crawford (9.575) also earned career-high marks.

The Bears earned a 48.675 on bars, their second highest mark of the season in the event. Dallas Crawford won the event with a 9.875, a new career-high. Mariesah Pierce earned a 9.750, also a career-best mark. She finished in a tie for third.

Sophomore Nikki Lew won the beam with a 9.775. Sophomore Ankita Shah, in her first beam routine, earned a 9.575.

Alicia Asturias and Alex Leggitt tied for first place on the vault, both earning 9.700's.

Alicia Asturias won the first all-around title of her career, scoring a career-high 38.800 points.

The Bears head back out on the road, taking on the Arizona State Sun Devils on Friday, Feb. 11. at 7 p.m. MT in Tempe.
