MALIBU, Calif. - The No. 14-ranked California men's tennis team (7-3) claimed its fourth straight victory in a 4-3 win over No. 4 Duke at the Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center on Sat., Mar. 12. Junior Nick Andrews' 7-6, 6-4 win over Jared Pinsky at the fourth singles court helped the Golden Bears secure their second win over a top-five team in three matches. Cal also upset a fifth-ranked UCLA squad, 5-2, on Feb. 26.

Though the Bears dropped the first match of the day, they responded to win their fourth consecutive doubles point. At the top court, the Blue Devils' No. 9-ranked duo of Reid Carleton and Henrique Cunha defeated junior Tommie Murphy and senior Pedro Zerbini, 8-3, to snap the Bears' four-match winning streak.

Cal responded to even the race to the doubles point when freshman Ben McLachlan and sophomore Riki McLachlan teamed up to get the 8-4 win over Pinsky and Torsten Wietoska at court three. In a close match at court two, Cal's 26th-ranked tandem of Andrews and sophomore Christoffer Konigsfeldt emerged from their tiebreaker against David Holland and Chris Mengel with a 9-7 win to seize the first point of the day.

Duke struck back to tie the match, one-all, when Mengel took out No. 93 Konigsfeldt, 6-4, 6-0, at No. 3 singles. The Devils went up for the first time, 2-1, when No. 11-ranked Cunha upended No. 34 Zerbini, 6-4, 6-3, at the top court. The Bears continued to fight and earned a two-all tie when Ben McLachlan came away with a 6-3, 6-2 win over No. 90 Fred Saba at No. 5 singles.

With momentum on its side, Cal claimed its first lead in the match on a 6-4, 6-4 win by senior Bozhidar Katsarov when he defeated Wietoska at court six. Katsarov has won all six of his dual singles matches. Andrews punched the final point of the day for the Bears on his court-four win over Pinsky. With the outcome decided, No. 68 sophomore Carlos Cueto retired from his match against No. 7-ranked Carleton at court two after trailing, 7-6, 3-2.

The Bears remain in Malibu, Calif. to face No. 13 Pepperdine (11-2) in a 1 p.m. PT match on Sun., Mar. 13.
