REDWOOD SHORES - California women's crew won three of the four races in the opening day of the Pac-10 Challenge, Saturday morning at Redwood Shores. The third-ranked Golden Bears squared off with No. 14 UCLA in all four races.

The Bears were victorious in the varsity 8+, varsity 4+ and the junior varsity 8+. The Bruins edged Cal in the freshman 8+.

The varsity 4+ was the closest race of the day, as Cal topped UCLA by three seconds, 7:37.4- 7:40.1. The Bears soundly defeated the Bruins in the varsity 8+, 6:46.1-7:03.3. Cal beat UCLA by nine seconds in the junior varsity 8+.

Cal concludes the Pac-10 Challenge tomorrow against top-ranked Virginia. Races begin at 9 a.m.
