STANFORD -
The second day of the Stanford Invitation produced a pair of Golden Bear winners, with Ray Stewart claiming the 110-meter hurdles in 13.66 and Tracey Stewart capturing the triple jump with an effort of 40-7.75.
In the hurdles, Ray Stewart prevailed by nearly half a second ahead of runner-up David Klech of Oregon, who crossed the line in 14.05. The time was a PR and moved Stewart into a tie for fourth on Cal's all-time performer list with Jordan Paul, who also ran 13.66 in 2009. Only Larry Cowling (13.39, 1982), Tim Bogdanof (13.51, 2003) and Rod Jeff (13.64, 1988) are ahead of Stewart in school history.
Tracey Stewart, the 2010 Pac-10 runner-up in the triple jump, recorded her effort Saturday on her second attempt despite jumping into a headwind of 1.1 meters per second.
Patrick Kowalsky finished second in the invitational shot put on his only legal mark. His made good on his first attempt, then fouled on his next five tries, but the initial toss held up to keep him in the runner-up slot.
Hammed Suleman also took second place in his specialty - the triple jump - with a distance of 50-0.50, while Allison Stokke was runner-up in the pole vault with a clearance of 13-3.50.
In the women's 800 meters, Taylor Dutch set a PR with her time of 2:12.34.
The Bears take a week off before returning to action April 6-9 at the Texas Relays in Austin, Texas.
