SAN FRANCISCO -
The Golden Bears won 15 events, setting a number of PRs in the process, at the Johnny Mathis Invitational Saturday on the campus of San Francisco State. Freshman Charnell Price led the way with triumphs in the 100 and 200 meters and running the leadoff leg on Cal's victorious women's 4x100 relay.
In the 100, Price and senior Cherrelle Garrett finished in a virtual tie at 11.75 seconds - fastest of the season for both runners - but a closer review showed Price crossing the line first. She came back to claim the 200 in 24.38, while the 4x100 relay, which included Tracey Stewart, Kayla Dixon and Price on anchor, set a season best with a time of 45.81.
Emani Truluck lowered her PR in the 100 hurdles for the second time this year with a winning mark of 13.82, while Angelica Weaver also ran a personal best in the 400 hurdles when she was clocked in 59.66, her first time under a minute at Cal. Truluck's mark tied her for fourth place with April Holliverse on the Bears' all-time performers' list.
In the women's hammer, Linda Oseso led a 1-2-3 Cal finish with a PR effort of 184-2, topping the 179-2 she set last season. Freshman Chioma Amaechi was second at 180-1, while Kiely Smith was third at 171-10. Oseso held onto her No. 5 all-time Cal performer spot, with Amaechi moving into sixth place.
On the men's side, junior Ray Stewart posted Cal's fastest 100-meter mark since 2009 when he blazed to a time of 10.60 in the prelims. Stewart sat out the final, which allowed Chase Wheeler to win in a season-best 10.73.
Other winners on the day for the Bears were: Aaron Burney (110 hurdles), Brian Carmichael (high jump), Jeff Butler (discus), Alima Kamara (400), Kristen Meister (high jump), Gianna Tinetti (triple jump), Amaechi (shot put) and Katie Bruzzone (javelin).
Cal next travels to Austin, Texas, for the annual Texas Relays Wednesday through Saturday.
