Stewart, Carmichael Lead Bears at Texas Relays

April 9, 2011

Cal wrapped up four days at the Texas Relays with six Golden Bear competing Saturday afternoon. Senior Tracey Stewart and junior Brian Carmichael led the way with fifth-place finishes in their respective events, the women's triple jump and the men's high jump.

Stewart produced the longest effort of her career in the triple jump under all conditions when she recorded a wind-aided mark of 43-5.75 on her sixth attempt. Her previous best was 42-11.50w during her runner-up finish at the 2010 Pac-10 Championships. On the blustery day, none of Stewart's six tries had a legal wind.

Carmichael cleared a season-best 6-10.75 in the high jump, more than two inches higher than his previous best to date. Carmichael's PR stands at 7-0.25 from last year's Pac-10 meet.

Senior Allison Stokke finished seventh in the pole vault, but established a season best when she went over the bar at 13-5.25. The school indoor record-holder at 13-11.75, Stokke vaulted 13-3.50 outdoors last month at the Stanford Invitational.

In addition, freshman Monte Corley placed ninth in the final of the men's 400-meter hurdles and Dana Hoolko was 11th in section A of the women's javelin with a mark of 130-11. Patrick Kowalsky fouled on his three attempts in the shot put.

The Bears return to action next Saturday, April 16, with the annual Big Meet at Stanford.
