No. 17 California Leads at Stanford
Feb. 18, 2012
STANFORD, Calif. -
The No. 17 California Golden Bear women's golf team got off to a good start as they try to defend their title at the Peg Barnard Invitational at Stanford Golf Course, leading after the first round. Senior Emily Childs is one stroke off the pace going into the second round.
The Bears, playing at the very familiar par-71, 6092 yard Stanford Golf Course, shot a first-round 295, six strokes better than second-place Fresno State and eight shots lower than host Stanford.
Senior Emily Childs, last year's individual medalist, is one stroke back after shooting an even-par 71. After starting her day with a bogey, Childs birdied holes four, seven, and nine. She also birdied her final hole (17, because of a shotgun start) to finish at even par. Sophomore Nicola Roessler shot a three-over. Jackie Williams, competing as an individual, also shot a three-over.
The teams will tee off Sunday morning in the final round of the 54-hole tournament. Live stats will be available on GolfStat.com.
