STANFORD, Calif. - Senior Emily Childs was the co-Medalist at the Peg Barnard Invitational, helping to lead her No. 17 California Golden Bears to repeat as the team champions at the tournament held at the Stanford Golf Course.

The Golden Bears, playing at the par-71, 6,092-yard Stanford Golf Course, held a six-stroke lead after the first round. The Bears dropped three strokes off their first round score, coming in with a 292, eight strokes lower than any other team's single-day tally. The Bears extended their lead, winning the tournament by 19 strokes over host-school Stanford (606-587).

The victory is the 26th team tournament win in the history of the program and the second win for Cal at the Peg Barnard Invitational. Last season, the Bears won the two-day, 54 hole tournament by 18 strokes over the Cardinal (579-597).

Senior Emily Childs also repeated as champion, this time sharing medalist honors with first-day leader Christine Uhalde of Fresno State. Childs shot an even-par 71 in the first round. She went three-over in the second round, but it was still good enough to catch Uhalde who shot a four-over 75 in the final round.

Senior Daniela Holmqvist had a pair of bogeys countered by a pair of birdies in the final round to come in with an even-par 71, helping her finish in a tie for third overall.

Childs already holds the Cal program record for most individual medalist honors in her career, with three wins last season. This is the first victory for her this year and the fourth overall of her career.

In addition to Childs and Holmqvist, the Bears had two other players finish in the top-10. The Bears third senior, Joanne Lee, finished in a tie for seventh at +7. Freshman Jo Ee Kok, playing as an individual, finished one stroke back in a tie for tenth at +8 in her first collegiate tournament.

All eight of the Bears played in the tournament with five in the official lineup and the other three playing as individuals. Freshman Morgan Thompson, like Kok, made her collegiate debut, playing as an individual.

"This was a solid start," said head coach Nancy McDaniel. "It's great to have eight healthy players who may all contribute. We are beginning to see the results of a lot of really hard work in the offseason from Dani [Holmqvist] and Emily [Childs]."

The Bears next tournament action will also take place in the Bay Area as they head to Almaden Golf Course in San Jose to compete at the Juli Inkster Spartan Invitational on March 5-6.
