Cal Places Third At No. 12 Stanford

Final Results 
STANFORD, Calif. - The California women's gymnastics team scored a 191.450 to place third in a tri-meet with No. 12 Stanford and No. 17 Arizona Sunday afternoon inside Burnham Pavilion. The Wildcats took first place honors with a score of 196.575, while the Cardinal finished second with a score of 195.025.
Cal scored a 48.300 on the vault, led by junior Madisyn O'Brien and sophomore Dallas Crawford, who each scored a 9.775 in the event to tie for eighth overall. Junior Chelsea Spomer was right behind with a score of 9.725 to place 11th. Arizona's Aubree Cristello and Stanford's Ivana Hong tied for first place in the event with an identical score of 9.900.
Sophomore Lina Nilsson paced the Bears in the floor exercise with a score of 9.800 to tie for seventh overall, senior Alexandra Leggitt was right behind with a score of 9.750 to place ninth. Junior Chelsea Spomer scored a 9.725 to finish 10th. Stanford's Ashley Morgan took first place in the event with a score of 9.950.
Junior Nicolette Lew tied for sixth overall to lead Cal on the uneven bars. Sophomore Alicia Asturias and junior Stina Olivere each scored a 9.725 to tie for 11th overall in the event. Stanford's Nicole Pechanec took home the bars title with a score of 9.925.
Lew also guided the Bears on the balance beam with a score of 9.650 to place 11th overall. Stanford's Amanda Spinner captured first place on the balance beam with a score of 9.850.
For the second-straight meet, California did not have an all-around competitor. Pechanec scored a 39.450 to take first place in the all-around for Stanford and Arizona's Aubree Cristello posted a score of 39.250 to place second.
Cal will conclude its four-meet road trip next Friday, March 9, in Boise, Idaho as the Bears take on Boise State inside Taco Bell Arena at 7 p.m. California will be back inside Haas Pavilion on Sunday, March 18, as the Golden Bears meet Washington at 2 p.m.
