Hayes Places 15th in Zone E Diving at 3M

NCAA Zone E Three-Meter Preliminary and Final Results

California's Molly Hayes reached her second final in two days and finished in 15th place on the three-meter springboard Friday at the NCAA Zone E Diving Qualifying Meet at Air Force's Cadet Natatorium. The senior posted a score of 548.40 in the three-meter final, one day after placing 11th with a score of 520.20 on the one-meter board.
Eight divers will qualify for the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships from the Zone E meet.
Hayes, a San Francisco Bay Area product from Los Gatos, Calif., collected her highest score (56.00) today on her third dive - a reverse two and a half somersault in the pike position, which had a 2.8 degree of difficulty. On her sixth and last dive - a forward one and a half somersault with two twists in the free position (2.5 DD) - Hayes scored 48.75.
Arizona's Samantha Pickens (668.70) won the three-meter crown.
Competing in her fourth straight Zone E meet, Hayes qualified for this year's three-meter final with the 17th-best score (271.45) in the preliminary round this morning. Cal's Kahley Rowell (Dove Canyon, Calif.) posted a score of 248.45 in the prelim to rank 26th, but the sophomore did not advance to the final.
The three-day zonal meet concludes on Saturday with the platform event.
