HALF MOON BAY, Calif. - Junior Jacqueline Williams posted her first round under par of her collegiate career, leading the individuals in the first round of the Pacific Intercollegiate at Half Moon Bay with a four-under 68. The No. 9 California Golden Bears will enter Tuesday's final round in sixth place.

The Bears played two rounds (36 holes) on Monday at the Par 72, 6,028 yard Ocean Course at Half Moon Bay Golf Links. The Bears started the day strong, finishing the first round in second place with a 285, just five strokes back from No. 1-ranked UCLA. Jacqueline Williams anchored the Bears first round success. Williams was tied for first place after the first 18 holes, shooting a four-under 68, the first under-par round of her collegiate career. Williams had a bogey-free first round with birdies on six and eight (her second and fourth holes of the day after a shotgun start) and two more on the back nine (16 and 17) to put her at four-under.

Senior Emily Childs, who started on hole five, made it through 16 holes before carding her first bogey of the day. She birdied hole number 10 and her final hole, the par-five fourth hole, to finish the round at one-under. Senior Joanne Lee also had a strong start to her day, going into her final two holes with a pair of birdies and a score of two-under before bogeying her final two holes to finish with an even-par 70.

The Bears did not fare as well in the second round, scoring a 301 in the second round, slipping into sixth place with several bogeys on the final holes enabling San Jose State, Stanford, and Washington to slip past the Bears.

Childs had the low score for the Bears in the second round. After birdies on 10, 13, and 15, Childs was at three-under. She bogeyed 14 and posted a double-bogey on the par-four hole number one to finish with an even-par 72. She is currently toed for fifth at one-under for the tournament.

Lee got off to a slow start in the second round, starting with back-to-back bogeys. After going to +3, she carded birdies on 14, 16, and 18 to pull back to even par before getting bogeys on two of her final three holes to finish the round at +2. She is in a tie for 13th overall at +2 for the tournament.

Because of illness, the Bears are going with a different lineup with freshman Morgan Thompson (74, 77) and junior Joi Pentin (82, 78) rounding out the Cal five.

The tournament will conclude on Tuesday, April 17 with a final round of 18 holes beginning with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. Live Scoring will be available through Golfstat.
