BERKELEY - The 12th-ranked California men's tennis team (11-7, 4-0 Pac-12) posted a 7-0 win over No. 62 Oregon (15-5, 0-4) on Saturday, April 7, at the Hellman Tennis Complex. The Golden Bears remained undefeated in Pac-12 matches to secure the program's best start in league duals since the 1953 squad won the Pacific Coast Conference championship with a 6-0 record and advanced to the NCAA title match.

"I think this weekend, our guys were very focused," said head coach Peter Wright. "We had effort across the board from all of our guys. This is the first weekend, and these are the first matches where I feel we've competed together as a team at the high level that we're capable of playing. Coming up to the end of the season, this is the type of tennis that we need to be playing in order to be successful in the postseason."

The Bears had more than just the win to celebrate. As part of McManus/Legends Day, the Cal tennis program honored the life and career of Jim McManus. Between doubles and singles matches, Director of Athletics Sandy Barbour was on hand as Wright announced the installment of the new McManus Scholarship endowment presented by Carole McManus and the McManus family. As a part of the day's festivities, Fuddruckers set up on Stow Plaza and served food to all of the fans in attendance.

Cal remained undefeated in Pac-12 doubles matches with its fourth consecutive three-court sweep. It was the 13th time this season that the Bears secured the doubles point.

At the top court, Cal's third-ranked team of senior Nick Andrews and junior Christoffer Konigsfeldt put together its seventh straight victory on an 8-6 win against Robin Cambier and Jeff Mullen to net the first win of the day. At court two, the 33rd-ranked tandem of junior Carlos Cueto and sophomore Ben McLachlan posted its fourth straight win to move to a team-leading 23-6 on the year. The Cal duo took out Jose Izquierdo and Alex Rovello, 8-6, to provide the clinching win for the second straight dual.

On No. 3 doubles, the Bears' freshman pair of Gregory Bayane and Andrew Scholnick kept Cal undefeated in conference doubles matches as they completed an 8-5 win over Aaron Clissold and Daniel Sardu, for their fourth straight win.

Down, 2-0, in the first set of his singles match against Cambier, 76th-ranked Andrews roared back to win the first, 6-3. He carried momentum into the second set and claimed his fourth straight singles win when he completed a 6-3, 6-1 victory at the top court to give the Bears a 2-0 lead in the dual. It was Andrews' 15th win of the year. He ranks behind only Ben McLachlan for most wins on the squad.

Konigsfeldt became the fifth Bear to reach double-digit wins, this season, as he earned his 10th against Mullen at court four. Konigsfeldt produced the same score as he did in his win against Washington (6-3, 6-3) go push Cal out to a 3-0 lead in the dual.

39th-ranked Cueto delivered the knockout punch for the Bears from No. 3 singles where his 7-5 win against Sardu in the first set paid dividends as he completed a 6-1 win in the second. After playing the match's only three-setter against Washington, Bayane posted a straight-set win from court five where he took out Izquierdo, 6-1, 6-4, for his fourth straight victory and a fifth point for the Bears.

"We play so many matches," said Cueto, who went undefeated in both singles and doubles matches, this weekend. "Having been injured, and then I was sick, getting these wins, this weekend, is great. It's always good when we play together, like that, and getting both 7-0 wins was great."

Cal went up, 6-0, in the dual, when 37th-ranked Ben McLachlan earned a 6-2, 6-3 win against Rovello at court two. It was his sixth straight singles victory and his team-high 22nd of the year. On court six, the elder of the two, junior Riki McLachlan held a 3-0 lead in the second set after edging Clissold, 8-6, in the first-set tiebreaker. The Bear continued to push and finished off Clissold, 6-1, to solidify Cal's 7-0 win.

The Bears hit the road and head to Hollywood for a pair of dual rematches against top-10 Pac-12 foes, next weekend. First, Cal will tackle top-ranked USC (22-0, 3-0 Pac-12) in a 1:30 p.m. PT dual at the David X. Marks Tennis Stadium on Friday, April 13. The next day (April 14), the Bears face the fifth-ranked UCLA Bruins (17-2, 3-0) in a 1 p.m. start at the Los Angeles Tennis Center. Please visit CalBears.com for more information.
