Cal: Will have an important role in leading the Bears to a successful season...qualified for the World Junior Championships in track and field in August.
Cross Country: Competed in the NCAA West Regional, taking 70th (32:01).
Track: Competed in two events at the MPSF Championships, the 5000m (14:44.92) and the 3000m (8:19.76)... clocked in at 25:51 (49th) at the Pac-10 Championships...in the 10,000m at the Stanford Invitational, finished at 30:15.38.
High School: Grabbed 19th place at the 2004 Footlocker Cross Country Nationals...claimed the Division IV state cross country title as a senior at Redwood HS...placed fifth in the 3200m at the 2005 state meet...2004 Verizon Junior All-American in track and field...six-time North Coast Section champion in cross country and track and field.
Personal: Born March 27, 1987, in San Francisco...parents, Tom and Laura Schmitt (Starrett), competed in cross country and track and field at Cal...his mom coaches Redwood High School's cross country team...in the 1980s, uncle, Chuck Schmitt, competed on the swimming team at Cal and his uncle John Starrett was on Bears' crew team...undeclared major.
