CALIFORNIA - Lawson enters her senior year at Cal as the Bears most versatile thrower...earned All-America honors for her third-place finish in the shot put at the 2001 NCAA Indoor Championship (PR: 53-7.5)...qualified for NCAA indoors in the shot put with the sixth-best qualifying mark (then-PR: 53-3.5) in the country...her shot put PR ranks second on Cal's all-time list...was a 2000 team co-captain with Nadia Lopez as a JUNIOR...recorded an outdoor PR and NCAA provisional qualifying mark of 49-10.5 in the shot put to take first at the Big Meet...that throw stands third on Cal's all-time performers' chart...also placed first in the discus at the Big Meet with a PR of 166-1, which ranks fifth in Cal history...her 182-3 PR in the hammer at Pac-10s ranks second all-time at Cal to fellow 2001 co-captain Jennifer Joyce...had a strong showing at the Pac-10 Championship, placing fourth in the shot put, seventh in the discus and seventh in the hammer...earned honorable mention Academic All-Pac-10 honors...as a SOPHOMORE in 1999, earned the team's most improved athlete award...placed seventh in the shot put at the Pac-10 Championship with a career-best throw of 47-4.25...Cal's second-best shot putter and discus thrower...recorded a then-PR of 146-4 in the discus...also had a then-PR of 158-2 in the hammer at the Cardinal Qualifier...as a FRESHMAN in 1998, set then-PRs in the shot put (41-6.25), the discus (135-10) and the hammer (149-2).
HIGH SCHOOL - Competed in track and field, volleyball and basketball at Clayton Valley HS...owns the school record in the shot put...track and field team won the league championship three-straight years and was three-time runner-up at the NCA Tri-Valley meet...ranked second in her graduating class.
PERSONAL - Dana Louise Lawson was born July 13, 1979, in Walnut Creek...parents are Craig and Louise Lawson...grandfather, Robert, is a Cal alum...father competed in football and wrestling at UC Davis...civil engineering major.
