Amanda Hunter Sets PR in Triple Jump at NCAA Meet
June 7, 2013
EUGENE, Ore. - Senior Amanda Hunter leapt a lifetime-best 43-3.25 in the triple jump to finish 12th in the event at the NCAA Championships Friday at Hayward Field.
Hunter improved on each of her three attempts on the day, moving from 41-1.75 to 42-2 to finally 43-3.25. While her first two jumps were wind-aided, her final one was legal and moved her up to a tie for third all-time at Cal with Cassandra Strickland, who recorded the distance indoors in 2007.
Despite her effort, Hunter did not advance to the finals, as she would have had to place in the top 9 to move on. Still, the result means Hunter joins former teammate Tracey Stewart (10th, 2011) as the only Bears to finish among the top 12 in the triple jump at the NCAA meet in the last 15 years.
