No. 3 Cal Shuts Out Occidental, 17-0
DAVIS, CALIF. – Led by senior All-American Aleksa Saponjic's three goals and five assists, No. 3-ranked Cal men's water polo continued its dominating performance at the Aggie Shootout, shutting out Occidental, 17-0, Sunday morning in Davis. With the victory, the Golden Bears improved to 12-1 and have outscored opponents in Davis, 58-10, with a 17-7 win over Cal Baptist and a 24-3 victory over Whittier on Saturday. On Friday, Cal defeated Navy, 19-5, at Spieker Aquatics Complex.
Redshirt freshman Kevin Le Vine was also stellar with an impressive 19 saves in the shut out of Occidental, while junior Colin Mulcahy joined Saponjic with three goals. Freshman Pedro Stellet finished with two goals and nine other Bears had single goals. Redshirt freshman Connor Reid added four assists.
Cal will next conclude the Aggie Shootout with a 1:50 p.m. match versus Chapman. Following the Aggie Shootout, the Bears will return to MSPF league play when they travel to Pacific on Friday, Oct. 3 for a 7 p.m. match in Stockton.
