No. 3 Cal Wins, 15-8, Over Chapman

DAVIS, CALIF. – Cal All-Americans Aleksa Saponjic and Colin Mulcahy scored three goals apiece and sophomore goalie Peter O'Laughlin had eight saves with five steals as the No. 3-ranked Golden Bears men's water polo team finished the Aggie Shootout with a 15-8 victory over Chapman Sunday afternoon in Davis. With the win, Kirk Everist's squad finished the Aggie Shootout 4-0 and upped their overall record to 13-1, outscoring their weekend opponents, 73-18.

Cal had a 17-7 win over Cal Baptist and a 24-3 victory over Whittier on Saturday. On Sunday, the Bears opened the day with a 17-0 shutout of Occidental before finishing the competition with the win over Chapman. On Friday, Cal had defeated Navy, 19-5, in a Pac-12 Network televised match at Spieker Aquatics Complex.

Another top scorer for the Bears versus Chapman was freshman left-hander Conor Neumann with two goals. Seven other Cal players scored single goals for Cal.

In the morning shutout over Occidental, Saponjic paced the Bears with three goals and five assists. Redshirt freshman Kevin Le Vine was also stellar with an impressive 19 saves, while Mulcahy joined Saponjic with three goals and freshman Pedro Stellet finished with two goals. Nine other Bears had single goals and redshirt freshman Connor Reid added four assists versus Occidental.

Cal next travels to Pacific for an MPSF league match on Friday, Oct. 3 at 7 p.m. in Stockton.
