SAN DIEGO, CALIF. - Powered by three goals from senior Aleksa Saponjic, Cal men's water polo improved its record to 2-0 with a 16-8 win over host UC San Diego Saturday at the Triton Invitational.

The No. 4-ranked Golden Bears, who earlier in the day had defeated Air Force, 19-10,  also got its scoring from sophomore Thomas Carroll and freshmen Luca Cupido and Conor Neumann with two goals apiece. Senior goalie Jon Sibley finished with seven saves.

Other scorers for the Bears included goals from seniors Blake Kelly and Matt Russell, sophomore Farrel South, redshirt freshman J.D. Ratchford and true freshmen Nicholas Carniglia, Pedro Stellet and Troy Oates.

Cal will next play No. 7-ranked and MPSF foe UC Santa Barbara Sunday at 9:20 a.m., followed by a 11 a.m. contest versus La Verne.

"It was a good team effort today," said Cal coach Kirk Everist. "We saw a lot of growth in our young group during the second half of the UCSD game. They kept the momentum our first line had created and ran with it."

In the morning victory over Air Force, Cupido led the Bears with four goals, and Saponjic, senior Luka Ivanovic and junior Colin Mulcahy notched three goals apiece. Sibley finished with eight saves.
