Cal Tops La Verne, 25-3
SAN DIEGO, CALIF. - Cal concluded the 2014 Triton Invitational in impressive fashion, defeating La Verne, 25-3, to finish the San Diego Tournament, 4-0. Freshman Pedro Stellet from Rio De Janeiro, Brazil was the Golden Bears' top scorer with five goals, followed by four goals from freshmen Nicholas Carniglia and Troy Oates.
Sophomore Thomas Carroll paced Kirk Everist's squad with four assists, while sophomore Chandler Jarrels-Stickney, freshman Conor Neumann and redshirt freshman goalie Kevin Le Vine had three assists apiece. Le Vine also finished the match with six saves.
The Bears were perfect at the Triton Invitational after defeating Air Force, 19-10, and host UC San Diego, 16-8, on Saturday. In Sunday's morning action, Cal upended No. 7-ranked and MPSF foe UC Santa Barbara, 9-6.
"This was a growing weekend for us," said Everist. "The veterans did a good job integrating our new teammates. All six freshmen made impacts and matured. We have work to do in the next few weeks, but it was a good start."
The Bears will next host UC Davis on Saturday, Sept. 13 at 10 a.m. at Spieker Aquatics Complex. Following the match against the Aggies, Cal will host the annual Alumni Match, beginning at 12 p.m. at Spieker Aquatics.
