PULLMAN, Wash. – Freshmen Amy Bilquist, Katie McLaughlin and Kathleen Baker combined to win five individual events and help in a pair of relay victories to lead Cal to a 139-66 edge over Washington State after the first 11 events of a two-day dual meet. Racing will resume at 10 a.m. Saturday.

The reigning NCAA champion Golden Bears set three Gibb Pool records in their opening dual of the season. Baker, junior Marina Garcia, sophomore Noemie Thomas and junior Farida Osman started off with a new mark in the 400-yard medley relay, finishing in 3:43.74. In the final event of the evening, junior Celina Li, McLaughlin, freshman Jenna Campbell and senior Elizabeth Pelton set the 800 free relay pool record in 7:24.36. In between, Bilquist covered the 100 backstroke in a record 54.89.

Bilquist also captured the 200 free in 1:51.13, while McLaughlin claimed the 50 free (23.73) and 100 free (50.91), and Baker the 400 individual medley (4:22.35).

Other winning times came from senior Kelly Naze in the 1000 free (10:09.34), Osman in the 100 fly (54.73) and Pelton in the 500 free (5:00.74).

Cal returns to Berkeley for its home opener next week, hosting Utah Thursday at 5 p.m. at Spieker Aquatics Complex.
