Bears Win In Singles, Lose in Doubles in Tulsa

TULSA, Okla. California's Andre Goransson and Florian Lakat triumphed in singles on Thursday but lost in doubles later in the day in their main draw openers in the Saint Francis Health System ITA Men's All-American Championships.

In the singles round of 64, Goransson, ranked 22nd nationally and seeded ninth-16th in the tournament, outlasted South Florida's 52nd-ranked Sasha Gozun in three sets, 6-4, 3-6, 7-5, at the University of Tulsa's Michael D. Case Tennis Center. Lakat, ranked 36th, played an even closer match, beating TCU's Trevor Johnson, 7-6, 6-7(4), 7-6(5).

On Friday, Goransson plays USC's 61st-ranked Max de Vroome and Lakat takes on Georgia Tech's 24th-ranked Christopher Eubanks – a No. 9-16 seed – in the round of 32.

In the doubles round of 32, the 25th-ranked team of Lakat and Goransson won the first set but wound up losing the match to the 17th-ranked San Diego duo of Jordan Angus and Filip Vittek, 4-6, 6-3, 1-0(5).

With the Bears losing in main draw doubles, they move to the back draw and on Friday play Vanderbilt's 21st-ranked Rhys Johnson and Daniel Valent at 4:30 p.m. CT in a round of 16.

Also on Friday, a Cal contingent will take part in the first day of action at the UCSB Classic in Santa Barbara, California.
