ATHENS, Ga. - The Cal men's swimming team closed out its 2015 fall campaign with several impressive swims by individuals, another strong relay effort and a second place team finish at the Georgia Fall Invitational.

The Bears finished second in the team standings with 913 points, just behind host Georgia which finished with 939.5. The meet was Cal's last for the 2015 calendar year, and the Bears will next compete on Jan. 22 and 23 with Pac-12 dual meets against Arizona and Arizona State.

Cal got Sunday's competition started on a definite high note courtesy of freshman Nick Norman. One of the Bears' newest swimmers took an early lead in the 1,650-yard freestyle and never surrendered it, pulling away for a time of 14:52.66 and a six-second win over Georgia's Matias Koski.

Junior Ryan Murphy followed suit, completing the backstroke double with a time of 1:38.35 to win the 200. That time also accomplished one of the Bears' goals heading to Georgia as it gave Murphy the A standard in the event. Cal left a mark on the event as a team, with Jacob Pebley also hitting the A standard with a time of 1:38.86 (good for second place) and Jeremie DeZwirek finishing fourth.

Josh Prenot finished off a strong weekend in Georgia with an A standard of his own, stopping the clock in 1:51.75 to win the 200 breaststroke. Fellow Bears Hunter Cobleigh (third) and Nick Silverthorn (fourth) were also strong in the event. And, freshman Andrew Seliskar raced to a second-place finish in the 200 butterfly, finishing in 1:42.70 while teammate Long Gutierrez finished fourth.

The Bears finished their weekend with a second-straight strong showing in a freestyle relay. This time it was the quartet of Long Gutierrez, Ryan Murphy, Justin Lynch and Andrew Seliskar that did the honors, winning the 400 freestyle relay in a time of 2:50.72 that ties Texas for the second-fastest in the nation this year.
