Cal Remains In Lead At John A. Burns Intercollegiate

LIHU'E, Kaua'i – Four-time defending event champion Cal (282-291 – 573, -3) held onto a five-stroke lead at the end of second-round action Thursday at the John A. Burns Intercollegiate in the Golden Bears. Cal is the only team in the tournament hosted by Hawai'i below par after 36 holes and will head into Friday's third and final round at Wailua Golf Course five strokes ahead of New Mexico (295-283 – 578, +2) and UNLV (287-291 – 578, +2).

“We take great pride in our winning streak at this event,” Desimone said. “It's not very often that a team can string together a win streak in a single event like we've been able to do. We'd like to make it five in a row and keep this going for a while.”

“The message to the guys is really pretty simple,” Desimone added. “We can't let up for 18 holes. We have to play and compete. When we're done we'll add them up and see where we stand.”

Cal has four individuals in the top 10 on the leaderboard paced by first-round individual leader Shotaro Ban (67-72 – 139, -5), who is now tied for third place one stroke out of the lead. Sebastian Crampton (72-72 – 144, E) is tied for seventh, while KK Limbhasut (72-73 -145, +1) and Cameron Shaw (71-74 – 145, +1) are tied for ninth.

Andrej Bevins of New Mexico (70-68 – 138, -6) and George Cunningham of Arizona (68-70 – 138, -6) are the co-leaders after two rounds.
