Cal Finishes Tied For Seventh At Southern Highlands
LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Cal (288-283-290 – 861, -3) finished in a tie for seventh place at the Southern Highlands Collegiate Masters that concluded Wednesday at the Southern Highlands Golf Club. Texas (276-284-278 – 838, -26) was a 10-stroke winner in the event hosted by UNLV that featured a 15-team field with 11 of the nation's top 25 clubs and the entire field ranked in the top 50.
Alexander Wilson (71-71-71 – 213) led the Golden Bears' effort with a career-best tied for 11th-place finish after registering his third consecutive one-under par round Wednesday. Wilson had four birdies during his round with three on the back nine, including a chip-in on the par-four 11th and a 30-foot putt on the par-five 18th.
“I was struggling early and making careless mistakes, but when I pitched in on the 11 th hole I definitely got a much needed boost,” Wilson said. “Then to make a 30-footer on the last hole capped off a great back nine and solid tournament. Coming back to shoot under par for the day was a massive confidence boost going into the end of the season.”
Shotaro Ban (73-72-70 – 215, -1) had the best round of the day for the Bears with his two-under par effort and finished in a tie for 23 rd overall.
KK Limbhasut (72-70-75 – 217, +1) was tied for 34th, while Sebastian Crampton (75-70-74 – 219, +3) finished tied for 43red and Cameron Shaw (72-75-79 – 226, +10) tied for 71st.
