INDIANAPOLIS – Cal's hunt for its second NCAA Women's Gymnastics Championship berth begins in Berkeley on Saturday, April 4, as the 20th-ranked Golden Bears are set to host Utah, Georgia, Boise St., Utah St. and BYU in NCAA Gymnastics Regional competition, the NCAA announced Monday. Meet time is set for 6 p.m. PT in Haas Pavilion.

"I'm very excited about the teams we're hosting. We have an opportunity to compete against some really high-caliber gymnastics teams and individuals," said Cal head coach Justin Howell. "I think that the field is just packed with super, super talented gymnasts. It's going to create an exciting environment for our student-athletes and create a very exciting atmosphere for all of the fans who come out to support the meet. We can't wait."

Tickets are now available for purchase on CalBears.com or by calling 800-462-3277. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for youth (17 and under), seniors (65 and older) and students from participating institutions.

Berkeley is one of six predetermined host sites on the road to the 2015 NCAA Women's Gymnastics Championships, along with Ames, Iowa (Iowa St.), Auburn, Ala. (Auburn), Columbus, Ohio (Ohio State), Norman, Okla. (Oklahoma) and Morgantown, WV (West Virginia). Each regional site will feature six teams, five all-around competitors who are not part of teams who qualified for regional competition and one individual event specialist who met the minimum Regional Qualifying Score (RQS), all vying for spots at the Championships.

The top two teams from each regional as well as the top two all-around competitors who are not already on an advancing team will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Women's Gymnastic Championship, set for April 17-19 in Fort Worth, Texas.

Cal is the No. 4 seed in the region. At third in the country, the Utes are the top seed, followed by Georgia and Boise State. Cal is ahead of Utah State and BYU.

The rotation schedule for the regional competition has already been set. As the fourth team in the Berkeley Regional, Cal will start the meet with a bye before floor, rotating in Olympic order onto floor, vault, bye and bars before finishing on beam.

The Bears are coming off a sixth-place finish at the Pac-12 Championships and rank 20th in the nation. Cal ranks among the top 20 on three of four events – floor (12th, 49.295 RQS), vault (17th, 49.275) and bars (18th, 49.140 RQS).

This year marks the first year since 2007 that Cal has hosted a regional, and the third time in history. Cal finished fourth in the 2007 regional, and in 1992 a third-place finish in Berkeley propelled the program to its first and only trip to the NCAA Women's Gymnastics National Championship.

"We're very excited to host Regionals here on the Berkeley campus. It's always great competing here at home in front of our crowd and not having to travel," Howell said. "All of those things can really factor into us being at our best on that particular day."

Cal is seeking its first regional title and second berth to the Championships in school history. This year marks the third consecutive season the Bears have qualified for regional competition as a team, and the 20th season overall. Cal has had representation at Regionals 29 times in the 34-year history of NCAA Women's Gymnastics.

Last season at the Minneapolis Regional, hosted by the University of Minnesota, Cal finished fourth with a 195.700 as regional and eventual national champion Oklahoma (197.725) claimed a berth at nationals, as well as Illinois (196.600). Dallas Crawford was the region's bar champion, earning a spot at nationals alongside all-arounder Alicia Asturias.
