Bears Reach Consolation Doubles Final in La Jolla

LA JOLLA, Calif. ??California's Andre Goransson and J.T. Nishimura battled their way to Sunday's consolation final at the Pacific Coast Men's Doubles Championship at the La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club. On Saturday, the Golden Bears won two matches and advanced past a team that withdrew from the semifinals.

In the noon final on Sunday, the Golden Bears will play the winner of the Sunday morning semifinal between the team of Peter Smith and Kaes Van't Hof and the pair of Michael Meyer and Toki Sherbakov.

On Saturday, Goransson, a sophomore, and Nishimura, a freshman, posted a 7-5, 6-2, fourth-round victory over Georgetown's Daniel Khanin and Jack Murphy? and a quarterfinal win over the William & Mary duo of Addison Appleby and Christian Cargill, 6-2, 6-1. The Bears would have played the Claremon-Mudd Scripps pair of Nikolas Marino and Bryan Mehall in Saturday's semifinals, but Marino and Mehall withdrew from the tournament due to personal circumstances.

Also on Saturday, Cal senior Nikhil Jayashankar and junior Jordan Smith fell in the consolation fourth round to Smith and Van't Hof, 6-4, 6-4.

The tournament concludes on Sunday.
