WACO, Texas – Zsofi Susanyi and Klara Fabikova posted California's biggest win in the NCAA Doubles Championship in four years on Saturday, when the fifth-ranked California pair beat Vanderbilt's 18th-ranked Ashleigh Antal and Astral Sharma in the quarterfinals, 6-2, 6-2, and booked their spot in Sunday's semifinals at Baylor.

Rain moved the doubles matches from the Hurd Tennis Center to the Hawkins Indoor Tennis Center. But the change in venue didn't bother the Golden Bears, who beat the Commodores in straight sets after winning in three sets in each of the previous two rounds.

“They played really smart with the location of their serves and were aggressive at the net,” Cal head coach Amanda Augustus said of her Bears. “They were able to use all angles of the courts to keep that team off the net, which is the strength of that Vanderbilt team.”

The Bears (35-7) will next face the winner of Saturday's quarterfinal between Stanford's second-seeded and second-ranked Taylor Davidson/Carol Zhao and Florida's sixth-ranked and Nos. 5-8-seeded Brooke Austin/Kourtney Keegan.

Cal has been historically strong in doubles, having won five NCAA titles. The last one – won by Mari Andersson and Jana Juricova – came in 2009. Augustus, as a Cal player, won Cal's first two national doubles championships with Amy Jensen in 1998 and 1999.

The last time Cal put a team in the semifinals was in 2011, when Andersson and Juricova reached that round. In 2012, a freshman Susanyi paired with Juricova to get to the NCAA quarterfinals.

“I'm really proud of having two teams in the doubles tournament and obviously having Klara and Zsofi advance to the semifinals today,” Augustus said. “It's good for our program. We've worked a lot on doubles. The players like to play it, and the fans like to watch it, so hopefully we'll be able to be successful tomorrow with our level of play. We may be indoors again tomorrow; the weather changes quite rapidly here.”
