Alice Jeong Earns U.S. Women?s Amateur Bid
BERKELEY – One day after winning the 94th Annual City of Los Angeles Women's Golf Championship, California junior Alice Jeong drove 30 miles across Los Angeles to compete at the U.S. Women's Amateur Qualifier at the Hacienda Golf Club.
Playing on one of Southern California's most revered courses, Jeong was seventh overall after carding a 76 to earn an automatic qualifying spot for next month's U.S. Women's Amateur that will be held at the Portland Golf Club in Portland, Ore., from Aug. 10-16. Jeong is one of 156 golfers that will make the field out of 20 qualifying sectionals that are being held across the country over the next week.
Golden Bear teammate Natalie Mu also competed at the tournament and shot an 80, finishing only three strokes behind the cut for the championship.
The U.S. Women's Amateur Championship features 36 holes of stroke play over the opening two days on Aug. 10-11 with the low 64 players then competing in match-play bracket. The champion will be determined in a 36-hole final match on Sunday, Aug. 16. Fox Sports 1 will televise the final six rounds from August 12-16.
Jeong enters her third year at Cal after having a stellar season in 2014-15, playing in five tournaments with a scoring average of 73.7. At the Schooner Fall Classic, Jeong matched a five-year old program record with a round of 6-under after carding a final round 64 on the par-70 Belmar Golf Club.
