BERKELEY – California junior Lucia Gutierrez finished seventh overall at the debut edition of the women's golf competition at the Pan American Games.

Competing for her native Peru, Gutierrez shot a 74-70-76-75=295 (+7) to finish seventh out of 31 participants from 16 countries at the four-day tournament that was held at the Angus Glen Golf Club in Toronto.

In the mixed team results, Gutierrez combined with her Peruvian teammates of Simone De Souza, Luis Fernando Barco and Felipe Strobach to place fourth at an even 576 after the 72-hole competition. The mixed team results combine the top female and male scores of each round for the four-player teams with Gutierrez and De Souze participating on the women's side and Barco and Strobach participating on the men's side.

Gutierrez has been a revelation for Peruvian women's golf throughout her career, including her spectacular showing at the 2014 South American Women's Amateur Championship in Barranquilla, Colombia, when she became the first Peruvian to ever win the women's title. She was a four-time Peruvian Junior National Champion from 2010-2013 and also won the 2012 Peruvian National Amateur Championship.

For the Golden Bears in 2014-15, Gutierrez led Cal with a scoring average of 74.1 in 10 tournaments. She won her first collegiate medalist honor at the Silverado Showdown in Napa when she claimed the individual title with a 73-71-68=212 (-4) while also holding the best individual tournament score of the season for the Bears with a 6-under 210 at the BYU Entrada Classic where she placed second overall.
