WINDERMERE, Fla. – Cal (310, +22) is 15th after the opening 18 holes of the prestigious Tavistock Collegiate Invitational hosted by North Texas and UCF were completed Sunday at the par-72, 7,544-yard Isleworth Golf & Country Club.

Florida and Purdue are the first-round co-leaders after shooting five-under par rounds of 283 on Sunday while North Florida and Vanderbilt are the only other teams under par and tied for third place three strokes behind the leaders following two-under par rounds of 286. Hannes Ronneblad of Texas Tech is atop the player leaderboard after his opening-round five-under par 67.

Tanner Hughes and William Aldred are Cal's top players on the leaderboard in a tie for 53rd after first rounds of four-over par 76. Aldred matched a team-high three birdies and rebounded from a four-over start following the first four holes to play even par over the final 14.

Freshman Devin Hua made his Cal debut with a five-over 77 and is tied for 58th. Hua birdies the first collegiate hole of his career on the par-four first and equaled Aldred's team-high three birdies but had had a quadruple bogey on the par-four fourth and a triple on the par-four 16th.

Alexander Wilson (81, +9) was in the Cal lineup for the first time since the spring of 2015 and is 73rd while Ben Doyle (85, +13) is 75th.

The Golden Bears have had a good run in recent years at the prestigious event that annually features one of the top fields in collegiate golf with four top-five finishes in the last five seasons including a victory in 2012 but is playing in 2016 with a lineup that has no previous experience in the event against a field that includes five of the nation's top-five teams including No. 1 Illinois.

Four players returned from Cal's lineup that tied for 10th at the 2016 NCAA Championships but none were available for the 2016 Tavistock Collegiate Invitational. Collin Morikawa missed his first collegiate event to make his PGA TOUR debut as an amateur at the Safeway Open this past Thursday and Friday, while KK Limbhasut and Sebastian Crampton are redshirting in 2016-17 to focus on gaining admission to Cal's prestigious Haas School of Business, and Jamie Cheatham has yet to play this season due to injury.

"It is certainly a challenge to bring a young and inexperienced team to this event, but it will serve as a great learning experience for the players in our lineup that will pay off with great benefits in the future," said Walter Chun, Cal's Alex and Marie Shipman Director of Men's Golf.

The 2016 Tavistock Collegiate Invitational will continue with second-round action Monday before concluding with third and final-round play Tuesday. Tee times begin each day at 8 am EDT/5 am PDT with Cal starting Monday at 9:15 am EDT/6:15 am PDT while the Bears' Tuesday tee times are still to be determined.
