BURLINGAME, Calif. – California teammates and Swedish compatriots Andre Goransson and Filip Bergevi will face each other for the singles title of the USTA/ITA Northwest Regional Championships on Monday, after each Golden Bear prevailed in the main draw semifinals Sunday night at the Broadway Tennis Center.
 
The top-seeded and 17th-ranked Goransson defeated Portland's Mike Pervolarakis, 6-3, 6-2, in the first semifinal. Bergevi, a fellow Cal senior who's ranked 77th and seeded fifth, beat another Bear, the 61st-ranked and third-seeded Billy Griffith, in a taut three-setter, 5-7, 7-6(5), 6-4.

The regional moved from Cal's Hellman Tennis Complex and Channing Tennis Courts – where play was set to start Sunday morning – to the indoor courts after rain drenched the San Francisco Bay Area for much of the day. Only main draw matches were played at the Broadway Tennis Center.
 
The first matches played at the BTC on Sunday night were the doubles quarterfinals, which featured two Cal squads. The third-seeded pair of Griffith and Goransson knocked off Washington's Amit Batta and Mitch Stewart, 8-4, while the eighth-seeded duo of sophomore J.T. Nishimura and freshman Bjorn Hoffmann lost to Stanford's ninth-seeded Sameer Kumar and Yale Goldberg, 8-6.
 
Goransson and Griffith faced Oregon's second-seeded Jayson Amos and Simon Stevens in the ensuing semi, with the Bears losing to the Ducks, 8-6, The Ducks will take on Kumar and Goldberg in the final.
 
The Hellman Tennis Complex will host both main draw finals on Monday, with the doubles match starting at 9:30 a.m. followed by the singles championship.

The singles and doubles champions will qualify to play in the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships slated for Nov. 3-6 in Flushing Meadows, New York.
