WINDERMERE, Fla. – Cal concluded the prestigious Tavistock Collegiate Invitational hosted by North Texas and UCF on Tuesday at the par-72, 7,544-yard Isleworth Golf & Country Club. The Golden Bears finished 15th in an elite field that featured five top-10 teams including winner and No. 6/7 Florida (283-277-284 – 844, -20) and runner-up No. 3/5 Vanderbilt (286-283-286 – 855, -9) that were the only squads to break par in the 54-hole event.

Florida also boasted the individual medalist in Alejandro Tosti (70-65-73 – 208, -8) as he finished a single stroke better than the Vanderbilt duo of Matthias Schwab (71-68-70 – 209, -7) and Patrick Martin (71-68-70 – 209, -7).
Tanner Hughes (76-76-77 – 229, +13) was Cal's top player on the leaderboard in a tie for 57th. William Aldred (76-77-78 – 231, +15) and Devin Hua (77-75-80 – 232, +16) tied for 63rd and 66th, while Ben Doyle (85-76-82 – 243, +27) and Alexander Wilson (81-82-83 – 246, +30) were 74th and 75th.

Aldred's wild scorecard was of particular note as it included an eagle on the par-five 17th as well as four birdies, seven bogeys, a double bogey and a triple bogey to go along with only three pars.

"Isleworth was a real test of golf both physically and mentally," said Walter Chun, Cal's Alex and Marie Shipman Director of Men's Golf. "It's not your normal course where you hit and then go find it. If you're wayward with your shots, you'll pay the price. Unfortunately, we were wayward with our shots from tee to green. Add in playing on the unfamiliar Bermuda grass around the greens making it tougher to get up and down, and it all added up to a challenging week for the Bears. The players learned a lot about where they need to be in order to be competitive at a high level."

The Golden Bears have had a good run in recent years at the prestigious event that annually features one of the top fields in collegiate golf with four top-five finishes in the last five seasons including a victory in 2012 but played in 2016 with a lineup that featured only player with a single previous experience at the event.

Four players returned from Cal's lineup that tied for 10th at the 2016 NCAA Championships but none were available for the 2016 Tavistock Collegiate Invitational. Collin Morikawa missed his first collegiate event to make his PGA TOUR debut as an amateur at the Safeway Open last Thursday and Friday, while KK Limbhasut and Sebastian Crampton are redshirting in 2016-17 to focus on gaining admission to Cal's prestigious Haas School of Business, and Jamie Cheatham has yet to play this season due to injury.

Cal concludes its 2016 fall season October 31 – November 1 at the Cypress Point Classic being hosted by Stanford at the Cypress Point Golf Club in Pebble Beach.
