STANFORD, Calif. – Karla Popovic won twice on Saturday to remain unbeaten this season and reach the singles quarterfinals at the ITA Northwest Regional Championships presented by Oracle. The California junior improved to 17-0 after beating Washington's Katerina Kopcalic, 6-0, 6-2, in the round of 32 and Stanford's Emily Arbuthnott, 6-4, 6-2, in the round of 16 at the Taube Family Tennis Stadium.
 
Popovic was also one of four Golden Bears to reach the round of 16 in doubles. The seventh-seeded pair of Popovic and sophomore Olivia Hauger defeated San Francisco's Hanna Borjeson and Joselyn Treyes, 8-0, in Saturday's round of 32. Top-seeded and third-ranked Maegan Manasse and Denise Starr are joining their teammates in the next round, as the Cal seniors knocked off Eastern Washington's Marta Heinen and Rachel Swindell, 8-2, on Saturday.
 
Back in main draw singles, the top-seeded and seventh-ranked Manasse posted a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Oregon's Julia Eshet in the round of 32. But the Cal All-American withdrew with an injury from the next match. Hauger – seeded sixth and ranked 86th – also won in her first match, beating Kareena Manji of Saint Marys, 6-2, 4-6, 6-4. But second-year Bear lost in the round of 16 to Stanford's ninth-seeded Emma Higuchi, 6-0, 6-1.
 
Sunday's regional schedule includes two rounds of main draw singles and two rounds of main draw doubles as well as consolation matches.
