TULSA, Okla. – California's Filip Bergevi and Florian Lakat held off another Pac-12 duo on Saturday to advance to the doubles semifinals at the Saint Francis Health System All-American Championships, while Lakat's singles campaign came to an end in the quarterfinals at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.

The second-seeded and second-ranked pair of Bergevi and Lakat faced USC's 10th-ranked team of Nick Crystal and Laurens Verboven in the main draw doubles quarters, eventually beating the Trojans in a tiebreaker, 2-6, 6-3, 1-0(6). The Golden Bears will face familiar opponents in Wake Forest's third-seeded and third-ranked Skander Mansouri and Christian Seraphim in the semis on Sunday at 12 p.m. CT. Last season at the All-American, the two Demon Deacons beat Lakat and current senior Andre Goransson in the consolation doubles bracket.

"Filip and Florian had a slow start in doubles, but at the start of the second set they really lifted their service games," Cal head coach Peter Wright said. "Their returns were outstanding in the second set and that momentum carried through the tiebreaker. They've been dominating with their serves all week."

Earlier, Lakat had a rematch with Virginia's second-seeded and fourth-ranked Thai-Son Kwiatkowski in the main draw singles round of 16. Last year, the Cavalier defeated Lakat in the same round. But this time the Bear prevailed, 2-6, 6-2, 6-0. In the ensuing quarterfinals, Lakat lost to unranked and unseeded Christian Sigsgaard of Texas, 6-3, 7-5.

"I was very pleased with Flo's fight and determination, especially after losing the first set," Wright said of the match with Kwiatkowski. "He made some adjustments to his serve and his forehand, and I think the key was he stayed aggressive in the rallies. In his second match, he didn't serve as well as he's been serving all week, and his opponent came up with some incredible serves and forehands when he needed them. Overall, Flo had a very good week in singles."

Playing in consolation singles, the fourth-seeded and 17th-ranked Goransson won twice on Saturday to advance to Sunday's semifinals. He first knocked off Tulsa's 112th-ranked Majed Kilani, 4-6, 6-1, 6-3, in the round of 16 and then beat Washington's 68th-ranked Mitch Stewart, 6-4, 6-3, in the quarters. Goransson will face North Carolina's top-seeded Ronnie Schneider in Sunday's semis at 10 a.m. CT.

"Andre struggled to find his rhythm in his first match today, but he came up with some great volleys to secure the victory," Wright said. "In his second match, his focus was much better and he stayed aggressive by taking every short ball and coming to the net. I was very pleased with how he played today."

The All-American concludes on Monday.
