Cal-Wyoming Postgame Quotes
Overall thoughts on the game:
"Good win. Great effort from Wyoming, especially down the stretch of the game. I thought they did a great job putting pressure on us with the transition offense and making defensive plays. They're one of the teams that is tough to defend when they have five perimeter guys who can make shots, or two big guys who can make plays off the dribble. They did a great job off the transition, and I thought we did a poor job for about a 3-4 minute stretch with our transition defense. We were celebrating baskets and they were making plays, then we made it obviously a ballgame. We did enough down the stretch to maintain and win the game."
On performance form Charlie Moore:
"You never know with freshmen. You knew he was a talented played seeing him play on the high school circuit. You saw the things he was doing as a high school player, but you never know the transition – not that he lacked the talent but just going through it, it's a different level – but he's never lacked confidence.
Charlie Moore is 5-10 and maybe the guy he's going against is 6-5, but he's just…Charlie's just a basketball player. He makes plays. He makes good decisions. For his are he's one of the better guys I've seen as far as attacking ball screens, reading ball screens, and he's so shifty that it's really hard to trap him and he has a variety of moves in and around the rim with his floaters, pull-ups, step-backs. He's just a tough guy to defend. If he's on his game, he's tough to defend."
On having a 22-point lead and not closing out the game:
"Yeah, I think part of that is celebrating. I want to be a good team and I just love defense, the mentality of playing hard and rebounding, but you have to execute down the stretch. I think we got excited that we had a big lead, and we didn't defend at the level we needed to. We didn't maintain the level we needed to. And I think when the lineup changed we had guys going out – we had four perimeter guys and Ivan, and Ivan's winded but we need him to go because we feel like we were better with him at the 5, and it took away from us a little bit offensively, and sometimes defensively…but we just feel that was a better lineup. And it was something new to have Sam, Charlie and Grant on the floor at the same time as well, so now you're probably not as strong defensively, but I thought Charlie did an admirable job defending the post as well."
California Sr. Forward Roger Moute A Bidias
On concern for big lead in second half, dwindled to five points:
"I was very concerned, especially from the fact that I thought we stopped playing defense from the high level that we did. We started fouling and they came back from the free throw line but I knew that we would keep on playing defense and bring the lead back up."
On frustration of early fouls:
"I was frustrated against myself, not necessarily because I wasn't getting into a groove or anything. I pride myself on playing defense without fouling, and I got two big fouls on the defensive end and that's something I didn't like but I had to keep myself staying in and getting back up the court.
On takeaways from San Diego State game:
"The San Diego State game was a learning experience for us. We realized that we were very stagnant on offense, so we worked on moving the ball a little bit more and being careful with the ball, and that was something we tried to implement in today's game. And sitting down on defense, being very locked in, that's the two main things we talked about coming into this game."
On having Ivan back in the line-up:
"It's great having Ivan back. He's such a great player. He has great hands, great rebounder and he's pretty good defensively, so just having him back makes us a better team."
On difference in offense compared to last game:
"On offense we got a little bit more movement, and we were executing as a team, and it just led to me getting a couple more assists"
On playing in Haas Pavilion and how it helps them have a home win streak:
"Definitely just the crowd. Familiar faces and familiar surroundings. We get shots up in here all the time so in Haas just playing a game, it comes easy to us and naturally "
