On the game overall
"We got the win and I thought we did a great job, especially in the first half. We really tried to move the ball, get the ball inside to our big guys because they (Southeastern) come at us with a packed-style defense – really packing the lane -- so we had to be ready to get perimeter shots and take advantage of transition baskets. I thought we did a great job on their point guard, just really trying to keep him out of the game because he makes them go. He's really a talented guy, and we also kept Hayes off the line because he's a three-point threat. For the most part, great team effort, but we have to find a way in stretches like that seven minutes in the second half to get over the hump."
Â
On the seven-minute tough second-half stretch
"I think in this particular game it was tough to maintain those leads because you get loose offensively, taking those loose and quick shots. That's where you really have to work your offense, and really attack and make plays. I thought they sped us up and gave us what initially looked like easy opportunities to score the ball, but when you missed those shots, they would come back in transition with our defensive rotations not set up and then suddenly they could make some shots to make it a ball game. Different from last game, I think we did a poor job in some of our defensive transitions. We had a case of taking our foot off the pedal."
Â
On Ivan Rabb's play
"When you miss that kind of time, your step is slow. My gauge is always to defend the ball, play hard and rebound, because the offense part will come. He doesn't have the luxury to relax in games because of his reputation, so he gets defended in a certain way -- double-teamed and guys getting aggressive with him -- so his looks are really tough. It's not like he's a spot-up shooter sitting in the corner. And when he's on defense, they make him play defense. So, he needs to get in shape as we go, and he's doing a good job in practice, but the gameplay takes time."
Â
Â
On feeling like he's in a rhythm
"It's honestly still really rough. I am missing a lot of shots I normally make. I am thinking too much but I am starting to get into a groove and my conditioning is getting a lot better. I am used to being able to finish all those shots round the basket and I really hate missing the easy ones because they all add up. But my teammates do a great job of telling me to keep my head up, not get frustrated and to stay aggressive and it's been working the last few games."
Â
On giving up large leads
"Most of the time in our transition defense it seems like our energy isn't the same in the second half, especially when we get these leads. We have to do a better job of locating our guys on defense and taking care of the ball in the second half."
Â
On how much he missed with toe injury
"It was probably more than a month. I was out for a really long time. I have had very limited practices so when you try and practice a few times and go and play, it's night and day. The game is a lot faster and a lot more physical. I just have to continue to get the reps in in practice."
Â
Â
On feeling more responsibility with Kameron out
"It's same old, same old. I do my role and if they need me I am there. If they need me to score I am there. With Ivan we want him to get as many touches as he can so we just play off him."
Â
On ability to protect the rim
"I take a lot of pride. I get to help my defenders and help my teammates out if I see someone coming in."
Â
On new career-highs and improvement
"I gained some weight. I am 265, up from 255. It's just the coaches have been helping me put in so much work in the offseason, especially working on myself and Ivan's rebounding, it's been paying off."
Southeastern Louisiana Head Coach Jay Ladner
Â
On positives coming out of the game
"I thought second half, we played great. Made a game out of it. We got a little discombobulated there when [Marlain] Veal picked up three quick fouls to start the game, that really hurt us. Had a true freshman out there behind him and it took a while for us to get settled down and organized. But as the game got better, he got better and we settled down and in the second half played more like what we were capable of. "
Â
On three early fouls to Marlain Veal
"It hurt us, I didn't do a really good job of getting our backup guy quite ready and having to do with his youth and inexperience. I thought he played much better as the game moved on."
Â
On Charlie Moore's 17 first-half points and the overall game plan around defending him
"Gosh, he's got such a great future in front of him. He's an outstanding player and he was really the difference in the game, in fact the three he hit late, when we cut it to nine was a huge play so give him credit. He certainly didn't play like a freshman."
Â
On resiliency to cut the lead in the second half
"One of the things I think about being from Southeastern Louisiana, most of our players are from Mississippi or Louisiana and don't have a lot in terms of means, but they battled and that's who they are. I was actually a little disappointed by the lack of that in the first half. They just kind of got off to a really quick start and we just thought we were kind of out of sorts, a lot of that having to do with losing our point guard. But I was really proud of the way they came back."
